![]() Bay Area painter Alan Treister opens an exhibition of New Paintings, organized by Brian Gross Fine Art, in the lobby gallery at One Post Street on Saturday, September 18, 2004. Known for his painterly abstractions, Treister continues to investigate color, light and space in these masterful works. In this exhibition, Treister's four new large paintings measure 8 feet by 5 feet and are arranged as vertical diptychs. Treister deftly juxtaposes color in these geometric canvases. The vibrant and bold colors are reminiscent of African and Central and South American textiles in their rich tones and combinations. A quirky geometry activates the composition by subtly disturbing the linear pattern. The lines seemingly align; however, they meander in a painterly manner as they traverse the canvas. Treister's new paintings are joyous celebrations of color. Alan Treister was born in Miami, Florida in 1957. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, his M. Arch. from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts in 1981 and his M.F.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. The show continues through November 20, 2004. One Post Street is located at the intersection of Post, Market, and Montgomery Streets next to the Montgomery BART Station.
