![]() Los Angeles painter Josh Dov opens his third exhibition at Brian Gross Fine Art on Thursday, January 3 with a reception for the artist from 5:30-7:30 pm. New paintings will be on display in which Dov continues abstract explorations of line and color. The exhibition will continue through February 9. Known for his structured paintings based on the grid, Josh Dov adds complexity in his latest paintings. Departing from a graphic nature and dark palettes that were more drawn than painted, these new works focus intensely on subtle yet numerous color shifts. Each painting takes on its own vibration, such as Fly Vines, in hues of green or Gathering, in lush variations of deep reds and magentas. The artist paints lines slowly across the canvas, in interwoven matrices, working with nibs of varying sizes, to build the compositions incrementally. The resulting effect of the combined lines when viewed together from afar create a sense of a rhythmic pulsing and are reflected in titles such as Sea of Sounds or Dialogue. Josh Dov, born in 1971 in Los Angeles, California, received his B.A. at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his M.A. at the University of New Mexico. His work has recently been acquired by the Achenbach Foundation, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, and the San Jose Museum of Art in California. The artist currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
